There is a truism about war that goes back a long ways. Carl Von Clausewitz said what has become extremely familiar to anyone who reads books - the end of a war must result in a political solution.
This has apparently escaped too many in the current administration.
Unfortunately, Iran has learned some lessons from this "excursion." One, the US is not a reliable party in negotiations, and two, the way to avoid being attacked by the US and its allies (the few who are left) is to have a nuclear bomb. See North Korea.
Well, to be fair, they learned the unreliable negotiator bit during trump 1.0.
The only satisfaction I get right now is knowing that nothing, no agreements...n o t h i n g...is going to undermine the personal vendetta the ayatollah now has against the trumps, Hegseth, likely the entire GOP, etc. So if the GOP doesn't want to do their job, it may get some external input.
So sleep lightly, republicans. I'm just hoping they go for the head of the snake and leave the rest of us alone because, really, Trump couldn't care less if they came after us. We would be a waste of ammo and sleeper cells.
Let's not let Bibi off the hook for his years of antagonizing every Middle East country after stealing the land he lives on and being determined to steal more. Sorry, but bible verse is not a deed of rights. I know Iran is evil but, really, Bibi has asked for it time and time again.
And also, you fail to mention that Obama had a solid agreement with Iran (as much as we laymen can tell) and Trump, along with the RW maniacs, destroyed it.
Wait what? Bush has relocated to SC?? These guys will do anything to find the lowest common denominator who will vote for them. I guess he sees Nancy Mace and Lindsay Graham and figures, "I got a real shot here".
Over half the world's supply of liquified helium is provided by Qatar. So for any cancer patients out there, or other people who rely on MRIs for their health/disease monitoring, I'm told the supply will be cut in half for the foreseeable future. Trump just won't be happy until he kills all sick people.
"Helium is essential to running an MRI machine. While the inert gas has always been subject to a somewhat volatile market, prices have been upended in recent weeks as the war in Iran spreads across the Middle East and cuts off key supply routes and production facilities."
Just waiting for some of the swarthier for profit facilities, like those owned by HCA, to start limiting who can have an MRI and how often because Medicare is going to pay what they pay and hospitals will have to eat the rest IF they even have the needed product to run the machines. HCA would definitely sort us out by who pays the most, not whose need is greatest. That's how they roll.
I wholeheartedly agree. HCA shouldn't be allowed to identify itself as health care. Their hospitals are use practices that are mercenary, merciless, corrupt and despicable. My Mom lost her life at one of their hospitals, and as a former R.N., the "care" she received was not care at all. Her death was preventable.
So sorry for your loss. I was transported unconscious to MH in Asheville a few years ago and, to this day, I have no idea what happened to me in the ED (no family here) and probably don't want to know after reading the horror stories of other patients left unattended in hallways for hours. Someone looked after me. I believe they just received their 3rd CMS threat of decertification. What a blight they are. Some great doctors and nurses, also abused, but they can only do so much if there aren't enough of them and/or they are not allowed to provide proper care.
Great point. And Ukraine seems to be altogether forgotten in this era of Trump, like a toddler high on sugar, stating "I can do whatever I want. I can take Cuba. I can free Cuba.." et al, et al. (Not an exact quote.) With all his belligerent bragging about "ending" wars-- the facts of which are rarely verified-- he seems on a worldwide rampage to do the opposite. The amount of damage done in 14 months by this administration is hard to calculate. And America's trustworthiness-- once stellar-- is at the bottom of a garbage heap and sinking lower by the day. Who-- or what-- will finally stop him?
Certainly Congress has no interest. Can't wait until they try to rewrite history after Trump is gone. We know they will have so many tales about what they did to try to stop him. I don't think most of them will win that PR war when both sides have a "throw all the bums out" attitude right now.
A prime example is just how many Americans right now are rooting for Iran. Obviously one should add, "in theory", because no one wants to see another 9/11 or to see more innocents slaughtered (military or civilian), but it is a stark highlighter mark on our 250th anniversary timeline as in "how the heck did we get here and why do we feel completely stranded, desperately waiting for someone in power to stand up to this madness all around us?"
My remark was not a criticism. Ukraine had to choose to go to war or be taken over by Russia. Going to war likely was a no-brainer decision but still a choice.

Better to take Clausewitz' actual quote from "On War."
"The political object [of war] is the goal, war is the means of reaching it, and means can never be considered in isolation from their purpose."

Fun factoid I just learned.

Glad you survived!! I blame the corporate overlords for the most part, but the attitude permeates the entire facility it seems (at least in our case.)
Every war is a war of choice
I wonder if Ukraine sees it that way?
