Thank you John. We are very appreciative of your informative posts that help us make some sense of our current situation. They are indeed thought-provoking. When we lost your “Reporter’s Notebook” and ultimately you and Maurice Dubois from the CBS Evening news, many of us had profound sense of loss, but your writings on Substack and Threads appeared as a bright light reminding us we still have access to quality reporting. We do realize leaving a steady employment offers wonderful freedoms but certainly a bit of uncertainty. You may need to adjust your path from time to time, or even head off in a completely different direction. We appreciated whatever time you have to share your thoughts. And yes, take that time with family, as it is time that is well spent.
Professor, I love your format of daily news. But I think your suggestion of Friday posts (same format, please!) would not only allow you a bit more time for your family, but more time to analyze, prioritize, and pass on What We Need To Know. What seems important Monday may have faded to irrelevance by ... hell, Tuesday. If things blow up mid-week, chime in.
And although as one of the previous comments notes, I'll read whatever you write, you might be saving your audience time. We're pretty overwhelmed with analysis as it is.
Thank you, John. In case you're tracking, I would welcome a weekly version. I find it difficult to keep up with the daily, and honestly I don't know how you do it.
Maybe share something about your son's art show?
PS, I've been a fan of yours since Washington Week on PBS, and look forward to many more years.
Am I too greedy if I'm wishing for at least one stacked news piece mid-week...maybe Tuesday or Wednesday? I'm in action mode during the week: can I write my congress person, repost something to share some information? By Friday, I'm ready to relax and give myself a break from thinking about news and politics. Just my two cents worth. I'll read whatever you write, whenever you write it.
Thank you for all that you are doing- Once a week on Friday is a great balance- allows me the weekend to read and absorb- and allows you to have more time with all the other 'spinning plates' in your work and family life. Happy Easter!
I had actually been thinking about the one-Story-Stack-per-week idea as a way of minimizing overwork. They’re my favorite thing on this Substack so far, but I know they’re a lot of work, and we don’t want you burning out!
Happy Easter and THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO!
A weekly version would be valuable. Look forward to it.
Best of luck at Chicago. They’re lucky to have you.
I like the ‘listen on Friday’ idea!

Please keep doing what you do. I've always thought you were such an honest and trustworthy person.
By the way, I like to take the two lane highways when I can. It is peaceful and relaxing and there's so much more to see.

Quality over quantity.
And thank YOU, for doing what you do.
Will read anything you post!

Thank you and Happy Easter. After reading you stack on Thomas Merton I bought the book. Now to enjoy it. Keep it going your fans are many.
Thank you. Take care of you and yours.
Thankful for whatever you give us.
