John, you have always been one of my favorites on CBS News. I respect your perfect balance between seriously reporting the news and showing you do have a sense of humor.
A well-deserved break is a good tradition of summer. Each week, I think... well, I already know the headlines. Then I listen to Stack the Week and find that not only were there interesting topics I missed, but I benefit from your wit, wisdom, and analytic powers! You give us factual details and context in abundance--two things we cannot lose in this opinionated, photo-shopped world. Looking forward to the next posting... but no rush!
I wondered how you could keep Stack the Week up, and I've appreciated every word. It's the best summary out there. Hopefully you'll be able to return to it at some point.
Clearly, you put significant time and effort into your amazingly informative and enjoyable “Stack the Week”. And yes, you do deserve a break for the other things in life, like family, fun, and rest. I lucked out as I have 4 hour drive to visit with my siblings tomorrow and planned to listen to the podcast. I certainly would have survived if you took a break this week, but I look forward to listening on the drive. Thank you again for helping keep us informed, stimulated, and as close to sane as possible during these difficult and frustrating times. Enjoy the weekend!
I agree that the amount of work and time Stack the Week must take is impressive but may be hard to sustain. I hope you’re considering other formats for analysis of perhaps fewer key issues that might fit into your work week better.
Perhaps less stacking would better fit in with your other demands, eg shorter reports during the week? We will happily take you however we can get you though I do like the reading option, in addition to listening, depending on my mood which, these days, lends itself more towards complete quiet (though my head rattles on).
I remember John Prine's first album I became aware of in 1974 (3 years after its release). Since then I have been comforted, saddened, laughed and all the range of emotions listening to his music. His being lost to covid was heart breaking. Mr. Prine and Oh Boy records fostered so many talented and soulful singer/songwriters (Kelsey Walden and others). What a lovely event (did you get a chance to play?). Anyway, keep up your great work.
StW is so dense (wonderfully so) that I can only imagine how much work it is. Perhaps it needs to change its shape in some way to be sustainable. Looking forward to whatever comes next.
