Reading about Head Start being cut rips at my heart. This administration is mean and punitive. Why would anyone want to deny a child the ability to learn? You answered the question. In this case, the achievement gap will widen. People will become despondent, and the vicious cycle continues. I do love the sounds museum story!
As so many have pointed out, the cruelty is the point. They seem to get some sort of evil joy in causing pain to others. What a sad sad way to waste their lives.

Loved the explanation of why Spain’s soccer program is so dominating. I wonder if there’s a lesson there for the party that still believes in government. Maybe make decisions as a unit for the common good.
Thank you, John! I remember the scream of the modem as well as the huffing and puffing when my connection tied up our only phone line. Those of us, of a certain age, have a new set of noises in the morning: the snap, crackle, and pop of my joints finding their proper connections, the groan as I try to stand up from my bed, and the rattlin' and jostlin' of my morning medications. I also have the sound of the tea kettle ticking and bubbling as the water for my Earl Grey gets up to a boil. We'll find new noises to sing the morning song of humanity!

So important to follow what is happening with student debt. Colleges raised their fees to obscene levels and now the debt is keeping an entire generation from moving forward financially. The banks tightening up everything helps no one but themselves. Shortsighted and greedy colleges and greedy banks.
At my age, and after a recent period where I could no longer have my morning cuppa(s), I will die on that victorious hill with my mug held high, oblivious to experts' slings and arrows (envisioning myself as Charlton Heston with his rifle). Having my morning cup just the way I like it (not quite so healthy but not a dessert) was an emotional return to normalcy. It's the little things.
