John Dickerson thank you for being on substack. Your voice and intelligent delivery of the facts deserves to be heard on this forum. I miss hearing you because I won't watch CBS news anymore
Thank you, @John Dickerson for writing about this terrible episode in such a clear and concise way. The president’s use of the deflecting phrase - “he knew nothing about it” reminds me of a now 20-year-old book by historian Peter Longerich, „Davon haben wir nichts gewusst!” - Die Deutschen und die Judenverfolgung 1933-1945” (“We didn’t know anything about that!” - The Germans and the Persecution of Jews 1933-1945). Unfortunately, an English translation has not been published.
In any case, I am not comparing the brutal murder of one journalist to the murder of 6 million Jews and hundreds of thousands of Sinti and Roma in Nazi Germany. But, the impulse to deny knowledge of horrific crimes is a common thread (in this case, the president covered for the involvement of MBS in Khashoggi’s murder; in Longerich’s assessment, many Germans denied knowledge of the genocide of the Jews of Europe after the war).
I don't remember any representative of the Saudi royals denying their responsibility for Jamal Khashoggi’s murder, other than to say "there is no proof of their involvement", which is not a denial. Nor do I recall US intelligence exonerating them. Has Trump not been alone in this denial?
Absolutely on target. It's probably safe to say that had this murder happened under a Democratic administration, it would've remained front and center- although the victim would probably have had to be a Fox journalist for any Republican to care. And sadly, with the ongoing tsunami of reprehensible actions from this President and his cohorts being inflicted on this country virtually since the moment Trump was inaugurated, it becomes one more blip on the upside-down chaotic radar screen. Thank you John, for telling it like it is. A vicious murder was committed and now the perpetrators, Saudi royalty are being welcomed to the White House with open arms.😡
Thank you for being a consistent voice for truth and factual information. There are few journalists like you left who may be relied upon for their journalist integrity.

Thank you, Sir Dickerson! Keeping the assertions of authorities in historical, factual context is most illuminating.

Again, thanks for the cogent analysis.
A thoughtful Substack making me think. 😲

The contrast of your erudite analysis and the patient in question is breathtaking. If only I could laugh about it!
Spot on John Dickerson, it made me physically sick to see MBS in the Oval.
I feel that Trump could have met with a different Saudi Prince, thus avoiding some of the current controversy.
If another person had been chosen, the attention of what is happening, what are the deals, and why would be foremost in the news.
As it is, this is another Trump administrations magical slide of hand… while you look here, we will do this.
The questions I want answered are: Why the talks with Saudi Arabia, what is the US giving up and what is the ultimate goal?
Thank you.
