Dickerson unleashed from CBS is why I subscribed. Thank you again for the unfettered journalism you gift us, John.

I hear your voice in every post, and it is much appreciated. You are a journalist in the very best sense of that word.

Your warnings are apt, but the necessary action from our legislators and judges, intended to check the power of a tyrant, seems to be lacking. From you, we know how the system should be working but isn’t. What we lack is the guidance on how to fix it, and the “leadership” such as it is, is not leading.

We are reduced to individuals, unproductively raging at the machine.

Donald Trump has consistently demonstrated that when he wants something, whether it be a real estate property for development or a political office, he will do anything and everything to achieve his goal. It is well known he used heavy-handed techniques like eminent domain and lawsuits when property owners refused to sell. His accusations that the 2016 election would be “rigged” was his setup for a “plan B’ should he lose the election. Now yet another dissection of the 2020 Georgia presidential election results and his desire to have the federal government take control of the election process are indeed part of his plan to obtain results he desires. He wants Greenland, and his hint at using whatever means possible to obtain it was another “plan B”. Yes, our election system must remain decentralized. As the president continues to try to steamroll his way to his goals I remind myself of the story of Vera Coking, the elderly Atlantic City woman who refused to sell her home to Donald Trump, who wanted the property for a casino parking lot. He doesn’t always get what he wants.

As a retired (local yokel) government employee in a red state I have a lot of faith that the non-elected, non-appointed rank and file staff in local governments will do the right thing. Unfortunately local elected officials and judges often have a lot of power in their jurisdictions and political ambitions beyond them.
